Long Sunday Part 1

Last Sunday was really fun…I was tired as hell, but I new I would regret not getting up so I did when Hiro woke me up that morning. We met up with one of her friends in Asakusa to see the “Asakusa Sanja Matsuri” Festival. There where so many people on the streets it reminded me of the football world cup 2 years ago when all the people came out to celebrate in Stuttgart. But this was no sports event and that’s what I think is amazing, all these thousands of people coming together to celebrate…but in a cultural way! All the streets were closed for cars and you could walk around freely wherever you wanted.

The people carried several dozens of portable shrines on their shoulders. There were also portable shrines carried by women only, and by children only….smaller ones of course for the kiddies. There were Floats which carried musicians playing flutes and beating drums, people dressed as traditional artisans and dancers performing traditional dance from Yanagi-dori to Asakusa Shrine.

It was really fun to watch something like this and of course I took my cameras with so here is some footage. Oh and this is the first time I actually edited something so don’t expect a blockbuster!

And some pics of course:
